Getting Started

LEARN YOUR WAY AROUND THE VISIO WINDOW, THE BASICS OF CREATING AND SAVING VISIO FILES, AND HOW TO PLACE SHAPES ON A DIAGRAM.

Details:

  • Become familiar with the various aspects of the Visio screen and their functions, including the Toolbar, Stencil Window, Grid, and more.
  • Create a new Visio file either as part of opening the application or at any time while working within Visio.
  • Use a variety of Visio’s built-in functions to move easily within complex, multi-page drawings.
  • Use a variety of Visio’s built-in functions to view diagram contents quickly and easily.
  • Use a variety of techniques for arranging shapes on the diagram quickly and easily, including duplicating, layering, grouping, aligning, and more.
  • In addition to placing shapes from a stencil, you can manually draw shapes to your specification, and then adjust and format them to your liking.

Creating a Basic Flowchart

NOW THAT YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH VISIO BASICS, LEARN THE SPECIFICS OF CREATING AN EFFECTIVE FLOWCHART.  EXPLORE VARIOUS SHAPES THAT SERVE SPECIFIC PURPOSES AND CONTAIN SPECIAL FORMATTING, LEARN HOW TO CONNECT THEM SUCH THAT CERTAIN PROCESS IS DEMONSTRATED, EFFORTLESSLY APPLY DESIGN FORMATTING THAT GIVES YOUR DIAGRAM A PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE, AND MORE.

Details:

  • Create an effective diagram for documenting work flow and procedures, analyzing processes, directing decision-making, and more.
  • Having created a Basic Flowchart, add shapes that serve specific purposes and demonstrate particular aspects of the drawing.
  • Include in your diagram certain shapes containing special formatting and functionality, making them easier to work with in complex diagrams.
  • Demonstrate a process flow by employing a variety of methods for connecting shapes.
  • Use Borders, Titles and Backgrounds to give your drawing a professional appearance quickly and easily.
  • Create an effective diagram for showing the relationships between a business process and the functional units responsible for that process (for example, the business objective and the departments that carry out that objective).

EXPLORE VISIO’S MANY OPTIONS THAT DESCRIBE BUSINESS PROCESSES, REPRESENT RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PEOPLE AND FUNCTIONS WITHIN AN ORGANIZATION, LAY OUT A PHYSICAL SPACE, AND MORE.  STORE RELEVANT INFORMATION INSIDE SHAPES THEMSELVES, AND LINK THEM TO OTHER LOCATIONS WITHIN THE DIAGRAM, TO OTHER FILES, OR TO A WEB ADDRESS.

Details:

  • Create an Organization Chart to represent relationships between people, operations, functions and activities within an organization.
  • Specify and store actual data within a shape, and use links the shape to another location within the diagram, to another file, or to an Internet address.
  • Explore other diagram options for planning or documenting a physical space, such as an office arrangement, ceiling fixtures, security access points, and more.
